Led by Brian Woodruffe. The day will explore stained glass from modern designers (Alan Younger, Henry Haig, the Webb brothers et al), through the 19th century (Clayton & Bell, Bell & Beckham), 17th and 18th century roundels from Europe, and some good examples of late-medieval figures. The 2024 window by Dorset designer Tom Denny in St John’s, Tisbury, will be the highlight of the day.
Itinerary:
10:30. St John the Baptist, Charlton. Coffee available. Parking in the Remembrance Hall car park off the south side of the A30 crossroads, 2 miles east of Shaftesbury. No parking at the church, please, and take care crossing the A30.
11:15 to 12:00. St Mary, Donhead St Mary. Parking in lane outside church.
12:15 to 1:45. Lunch. The Forester (Donhead St Andrew), Bennett Arms (Semley), Compasses (Lower Chicksgrove), Grove Arms (Ludwell) and Boot (Tisbury) all offer lunch and there are several cafés in Tisbury. Pubs will require advance booking!
2:00 to 3:00. St John, Tisbury. Parking in church hall carpark adjacent to church.
3:15 to 3:45. St Michael, Teffont Evias. Parking on the road outside.
4:00 to 4:30. St Mary, Dinton. Parking in church car park below the church.
