The Grade 1 Abbey was founded in the 7th century; St Aldhelm was the
second abbot. What survives is the nave of the great abbey church in
Norman and other styles. The great glory of the church is the Romanesque
tympanum of Christ in Glory in the south porch. Also note the vaulted roof of
the nave with its coloured bosses and the Burne-Jones window by Morris & Co.
